A Beecher City man was fatally injured in a crash Sunday morning near Shumway.

County sheriff's deputies were called to the scene after a motorist saw debris at the intersection of 1900th Avenue and Illinois Route 32 shortly before 7:30am.  Deputies found a vehicle and two men inside some distance from the roadway.  Emergency medical services and the Coroner's Office were notified.

Effingham County Coroner Duane Guffey pronounced one occupant, 20-year-old Jayce Wright of Beecher City dead at the scene just before 9am.  The other occupant, 22-year-old Douglas Kelly was injured and was airlifted from the scene.

Guffey said early Monday afternoon that the vehicle in which Wright and Kelly were traveling was headed east on 1900th Avenue and traveled across Illinois 32 and off the road and down a ravine.

Illinois State Police, the Effingham County Sheriff's Office and the Effingham County Coroner's Office are investigating the crash.  An autopsy will be conducted today on Jayce Wright to determine the official cause of death.  Shumway and Effingham Fire Departments assisted at the scene of the crash.
