Three Mattoon residents were injured in a crash in Fayette County Thursday afternoon.

State police say 51-year-old Kathy Steele fell asleep while driving on I-70 eastbound, six miles east of St. Elmo, just after 5pm.  The car ran off into the median, came back onto and across both lanes of travel and down the embankment, rolling over.

Steele was injured, as were her passengers 77-year-old Patricia Strohl and 52-year-old Bobby Harris.  All three were taken to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment.

Steele was cited for improper lane usage and for possession of cigarettes with no valid tax stamp.
