The Effingham County Chamber of Commerce, City of Effingham and Effingham County Economic Development Foundation are sponsoring the first Effingham County Manufacturing Day this Friday.

10 local manufacturers will host tours for area high school students as part of an effort to draw greater attention to the opportunities that a career in manufacturing can provide, and promote the pursuit of skills that will lead to a long-term career.

More than 150 students from eight area high schools will participate in the event, which also includes the Chamber's First Friday Luncheon with Lake Land College President Josh Bullock as the luncheon speaker.

Kim Watson from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity will be on hand at the luncheon to present a proclamation for Effingham County Manufacturing Day signed by Illinois Governor Pat Quinn.

Each student will participate in three plant tours during the day.

Manufacturers participating in Effingham County Manufacturing Day are Hitachi Metals Automotive Components, Hodgson Mill, John Boos and Company, Kingery Printing Company, Nova Solutions, Quad Graphics, Siemer Milling Company, Southeastern Container, Inc., Stevens Industries and Versatech LLC.

High school seniors sending students are Altamont, Beecher City, Dieterich, Effingham, Newton, St. Anthony, Stewardson-Strasburg and Teutopolis.

Activities will begin at 8:30am and will conclude around 2:30pm.
