A host of milestones will be celebrated at this weekend's Corvette Funfest at Mid America Motorworks in Effingham.

This is the 20th annual Funfest.  It's also the 40th anniversary of Mid America Motorworks, formerly Mid America Designs.  In addition, this is the 60th anniversary of the Corvette brand.  Plenty to celebrate.

Things will get started with the City of Effingham Welcomefest for Corvette Thursday evening in the downtown area.  Activities are planned from 5 to 8pm around the lawn of the old Courthouse.  Up to 500 Corvettes are expected to take part in the Fun Run Road Tour that will finish downtown, and many of the Corvette owners are expected to park and enjoy the celebration.  It'll give local residents an opportunity to browse and take a look at the various Vettes.

Other attractions downtown will include a Gabby Goat cookout, fresh kettle corn, Tropical Sno, free souvenirs and giveaways, and live music by Jed Adam Band and Andy Rueter.

Friday through Sunday will contain many events for Funfest registrants and the general public.  Highlights will include a Saturday night concert by Randy Bachman and Fred Turner of Bachman-Turner Overdrive fame.  Also scheduled: a Ron Fellows Performance Driving School, award of the Dave McLellan Scholarship to mechanical engineering students, a Just for the Ladies workshop, and special displays including a selection of World War II vehicles from the world-famous collection of Dr. Mac Jones in the MY Garage and Museum.  Participants will also have the opportunity to purchase a personalized commemorative brick on the Funfest Walk of Fame.

A special gathering is planned Friday night at the MY Garage and Museum.  Already a sellout, the event is designed to welcome Funfest attendees and to raise money for charitable causes including TREC.
