The Effingham Fire Department was dispatched to an activated fire alarm at the ARC Group Home, 2311 S. Veterans Drive in Effingham Sunday, September 9 at 6:23 a.m.

Evacuation was already in progress of all residents and staff upon the first Engine Company arriving. The staff reported a stove fire in the kitchen. The staff had utilized a dry chemical fire extinguisher in an attempt to put out the fire prior to arrival of the fire department.

The first in officer reported the fire was out, however, there were smoky conditions throughout the facility. With the assistance of the second-in Engine Company, ventilation fans were utilized to clear the home of all smoke. The Truck Company stood by on scene.

Residents and staff were allowed back into the facility at 6:30 a.m. There was no structural damage to the building and minor damage to the stove. Fire companies cleared the scene at 6:43 a.m.
