The Facility Study Committee looking at the needs of the Teutopolis school district is seeking information on space requirements for students.

Teutopolis Superintendent Bill Fritcher said committee members asked whether there is a standard for per pupil square footage in classrooms.  Fritcher said he'd be obtaining the information as the committee seeks to efficiently use the space available.

It's an interesting situation for committee members as the Teutopolis district like most in Illinois has been dealing with declining enrollment, yet the original section of Teutopolis High School is more than 80 years old.

Fritcher said committee members discussed what to do with the oldest section at the high school, but also wondered at what point all K-8 students would fit comfortably in one building, meaning no further need for the junior high building.  Ironically, the junior high building is by far the newest facility in the district.

There was also discussion about relocating the Unit office from a building next to the high school to another facility if cost savings could be realized.

The committee had waited a couple of months since its initial meeting to meet again Thursday night, but Fritcher said the group should meet again in the next three to four weeks once he obtains the per-pupil square footage information.
