An area resident was killed when his car collided with a livestock trailer Wednesday morning near Beecher City.

Fayette County Deputy Coroner Ricky Gottman announced Wednesday afternoon that the person killed in the crash was 18-year-old Wyatt S. Giles of rural Beecher City.

The crash happened at 6:25am on Illinois 128, less than a mile south of the junction with Illinois 33 outside Beecher City.  The livestock truck and trailer turned onto Illinois 128 and Giles' car struck the side of the trailer.  The truck and trailer were halfway onto the highway at the time of impact.  Residents of the area near the crash scene said it was very foggy around the time of the collision.

The driver of the semi and trailer, 53-year-old Darrell A. Petty of Beecher City, was not injured.

Illinois 128 was closed for about three hours.  The roadway was re-opened around 9:30am.

Illinois State Police, Effingham County and Fayette County sheriff's deputies, Tri-County Fire Protection District firefighters, Shumway Fire Protection District firefighters and the Fayette County Coroner's Office along with local ambulance services assisted at the scene.
