Fire Damages Vacant House West of Effingham

Details are now available on a structure fire that occurred west of Effingham along West Fayette Road early Friday morning.

Shumway Fire Protection District firefighters were called at 1:49am to 10416 Fayette Road. Effingham County Sheriff's deputies arrived on scene and reported that the structure was fully involved. First arriving fire companies requested a full still to bring more resources to the scene. Norris Electric Co-op was requested to check for active utilities. It was found that no electric utilities were connected to the house.

Shumway Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Matt Brown reported that the house was unoccupied. The owner was contacted and verified that no one was living in the home.

The fire was brought under control at approximately 2:30am. Assistance was received from Effingham, Watson, Altamont, Sigel, and Tri-County firefighters, Rural Med EMS, and the Illinois State Fire Marshal's Office.

No injuries were reported. The Shumway Fire Protection District and the Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the blaze.
