Murder charges have been dismissed against Jamie Charlton for his role in the death of Roger Courson.

The Salem resident instead pleaded guilty Wednesday to residential burglary for his part in the incident in September of 2021. Charlton was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in the burglary. He will spend one year on mandatory supervised release once he's out of prison, and was given credit for 589 days served in custody awaiting disposition of his case.

Earlier this year, co-defendant Walter West of Edgewood pleaded guilty to Courson's murder in exchange for a 30-year prison term. West was also sentenced to five years in prison for breaking out of Clay County Jail while awaiting disposition of his murder case.

A third defendant, Christopher Gallatin of Centralia is still awaiting the end of his case.
