Desha Wear Returns to Unit 40 Board

The Effingham Unit 40 Board of Education Tuesday appointed Dr. Desha Wear to fill a two-year unexpired term on the Board. The term will run until the Board election in 2025.

Unit 40 Board President Jill Wendling said Wear was one of three people who applied for the unexpired term. Wendling said that one of those who applied was ineligible as three people are already serving on the Board from that person's territory.

Wear was named to the Board when no one ran for the unexpired term in the April election. She had been appointed to the Board in 2021 and was not elected for a full four-year term in April. 

The Board is now at a full complement of seven members. Andrew Altman and Scott Volpi were newly elected in April; Wendling and Jane Willenborg were re-elected in April; and Steve Bone and Chad Thompson are in mid-term. 

The Board was also meeting Tuesday evening to review student discipline matters and some personnel moves. Those items are considered in closed session before any action is taken in open session.
