Effingham County 911 board members Tuesday were updated on the process of establishing a network of communication towers for the county's fire protection districts.

911 Board Vice-Chairman Jake Buhnerkempe reported on his conversation with Teutopolis Fire Chief Tim McMahon on the process of setting up the network. McMahon reported that letters were sent to all of the fire chiefs in the county and that the chiefs signed off on the Teutopolis district handling the disbursement of ARPA funding for the radio system. Correspondence from McMahon to Buhnerkempe also shared that they are in the process of getting all of the tower site agreements signed and returned by the owners of the sites. They hope to have those agreements returned by month's end.

The 911 Board voted to approved the purchase and installation of UPS batteries for just under $7,000. The Board also was updated on the assignment of two portable radios to be assigned to the Probation Department for when they make home visits, and the new community alert notification system called TextMyGov. Citizens can sign up by texting EFFINGHAM to 91896. The system will replace HYPER/REACH within the next month.
