The Effingham City Plan Commission has approved a site plan for Cherry Street Apartments. The development at 711 South Cherry Street, is to replace a single-family home. It will include 11 apartment units, one of five units and one of six units.

The Plan Commission approved a petition to vacate a portion of Cherry Street and a portion of an alley between Grove Avenue and the CSX Railroad.

The Commission approved a petition for a special use permit at 104 Blohm Avenue, a building formerly owned by Willowbrook that has been purchased by the Effingham County Health Department. The building will house offices that have been renting space in the Lincolnland Building. Also approved were text amendments to the zoning ordinance regarding solar energy units in the city.

The Plan Commission also reappointed Brian Hayes and Dave Storm as chairman and vice chairman of the body, and welcomed Kevin Gouchenouer to the commission, succeeding Alan Harris.
