Stew-Stras Board Approves Infrastructure Work

Stewardson-Strasburg school board members Tuesday took action on infrastructure improvements.

The Board approved Dan's Glass of Effingham high school west wing window replacement. The project will cost $124,975. Also approved was use of E-Rate funds to be used for a wireless infrastructure upgrade for $51,219.24. 

Board members were also updated by Superintendent Justin Deters on projects for the bus barn, sewer line from the school into Strasburg, track improvements, and the window project. The Board also approved Allred's Floor Finishing for gym refinishing work.

Board members approved participation in the South East Purchasing Co-operative; approved increases in officials' pay, and approved a junior high co-op agreement with the Windsor district for 2023 through 2025.  The Board also discussed changing the junior high mascot to "Hatchets"; heard from high school principal Cody McCollum about the wrap-up of basketball, a successful Drama Club performance and about Scholar Bowl winning the regional and NTC championship. They also heard from grade school principal Penny Hill that the 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams were making trips to the state tournament and about FFA Week activities at the school.

In personnel moves, the Stew-Stras board hired Drew Hansen as french and foreign language teacher, and accepted resignations from Jaden Widdersheim as junior high boys basketball coach and from Gerry Schlechte as junior high boys basketball assistant.
