Cumberland school board members have given approval to a spring and summer geothermal project.

The Board approved a performance contract with Veregy, pending a review of the agreement by the district's legal counsel.

Board members also heard from Tim King of King's Financial regarding the bond process to finance the project. $2.5 million will be placed with First Neighbor Bank in working cash fund and just under $415,000 in the refunding fund.

The Board also approved a resolution providing for the issuance of up to $3,050,000 in general obligation bonds.

Cumberland board members also set the high school graduation date for this year as May 21, and agreed to seek quotes on a zero turn lawn mower. The Board agreed to post the open position of district school psychologist, and to approve job openings for high school Science teacher, PE/Health/Drivers Ed teacher, and a certified athletic trainer. Board members also appproved a contract with Christine Mock as a part-time special education teacher and 504 director, and accepted the resignation of Shaina Oakley-Kanizer, retroactive to December 20.

The Board also got an update on progress of the Cumberland Clay Target League and the Cumberland High School FFA's American Farmer degree program. A district resident also shared his concerns about TikTok.

Information was also shared about Cumberland's Quest students. The students are researching the Arts, and how projects could benefit others. One would be designing putt-putt golf holes so the group could build them and provide them as an outreach opportunity at the family theme night at the school in May.
