County Jobless Rate at 2.8% in October

Effingham County's October unemployment rate was 2.8%, down from 3% in October 2021.

Total non-farm employment in October increased by 275 jobs compared to last year. 

Employment gains were posted in Government (100), Educational and Health Services (100), Construction (75), Leisure and Hospitality (50), Professional and Business Services (25), and Natural Resources and Mining (25).

Employment declined in Manufacturing (-50), Trade, Transportation and Utilities (-25), and Financial Activities (-25). 

No change was reported in Information, or Other Services.

Area counties and their jobless rates:

Coles--4.1%, slightly up from 4% a year earlier

Cumberland--3%, down slightly from 3.1%

Shelby--3.4%, up from 3.1%

Clay--4.2%, the same as one year earlier

Fayette--3.9%, up slightly from 3.8%

Jasper--3.2%, up slightly from 3.1% one year earlier

The statewide jobless rate in October was 4.3%, down from 4.8% in October 2021.
