Memorial Day in Effingham will again be highlighted by a patriotic musical and a fundraising meal on Monday.

The fifth annual presentation of "Song of the Soldier: A Tribute to Our Military" is planned at 3pm Monday, presented by Three Chicks and a Stage at the Effingham Performance Center.  The production honors America's veterans and military with music, drama and historical tributes.  The cast includes veterans, musicians, actors and representatives from local veterans organizations.

One of the highlights of this year's production will be photos of local veterans and the military projected on the theater's big screens.   A portion of the proceeds will benefit Central Illinois Honor Flight, the effort to make sure all World War II veterans have the opportunity to travel to Washington DC to see their memorial.

The fundraising meal is also designed to raise funds for Honor Flight.  The meal will be served at the Effingham Knights of Columbus Building on West Fayette Monday from 10am to 6pm.  The menu features boneless pork chop, fried chicken, baked beans, cole slaw, potato salad, roll, hot dogs, chips, dessert, lemonade and tea.  The meal prices are $8 for adults, $5 for those 12 and younger, and free for World War II veterans.  Drive thru carry outs will be available.  Phone orders to 217-343-3915 or 217-844-2401.
