Altamont police are investigating a series of break-ins including four that occurred overnight Monday.

Altamont Police Chief Alan Heiens said the overnight incidents occurred at Altamont Lutheran Interparish School, Joe's Pizza and Pasta, The Cookie Jar and Altamont Lumber.  Heiens said the break-ins occurred between 11pm Monday and 1am today.  He said the perpetrators pried open doors and said windows were broken.  Cash was taken from the Cookie Jar and from Joe's.

The overnight incidents follow a break-in at Altamont's First United Methodist Church last Thursday when musical instruments were taken and damage done and another break-in last week at Altamont Vet Clinic where medications were taken.

Heiens said police are investigating to see whether all of the incidents are related.  He said there are no suspects.

Heiens asked that business owners take all of the cash out of their businesses at the end of the day and to make sure all doors are locked.  He also encouraged anyone with information on the incidents to phone the Altamont Police Department at 618-483-6219 or Crimestoppers at 217-347-6583.
