Altamont city council members Monday continued their discussion as to whether to raise water rates, but reached no decision.

The Council decided to explore cost-saving options before deciding on raising rates.

Council members voted to hire Curry and Associates of Nashville to do the engineering work on a water main replacement at North 500th Street and East 900th Avenue. Crews are attempting to determine whether water there is the result of a water main break or whether there is an underground spring there.

The Council also purchased real estate for utility purposes from Russell and Jennifer Neu so in-ground electrical lines can be installed at their new residence, and approved park fence replacement down the baselines on Diamonds B and C at Gilbert Park for $24,270. Some previously donated fence will be used for part of the project to lower the cost.
