North Clay school board members Wednesday took time to recognize the state champion North Clay/Clay City Cardinals baseball team and their coach John Frech.

The Cardinals won the Class 1A state title earlier this month in Peoria.

Board members also learned that the high school gym floor project is underway. The new floor has been delivered and has been acclimated, and is ready for installation. There was also information shared on grade school summer maintenance projects underway. New paint and carpet will be completed in three classrooms, and the grade school gym floor is being replaced.

The Board also discussed the more extensive construction project planned at the school complex, including possible agreements with Poettker Construction to serve as the construction manager on the project. The matter was tabled for now.

Board members approved an amended budget for the current fiscal year, and renewed insurance coverage with Snedeker Insurance. The Board also purchased bus routing software, approved policy revisions for first reading, and renewed membership in the Illinois Association of School Boards.

The Board approved revisions to the athletic/co-curricular handbook for the coming school year, and got an update on summer projects.

In personnel moves, the North Clay board approved an unpaid leave for Sariah Forth so she can complete student teaching requirements to become an elementary teacher, accepted the resignation of Ethan Workman as assistant junior high softball coach, hired Andy Romack to succeed Workman as coach, hired Keisha Allen as junior high softball volunteer assistant coach, and approved an unpaid leave in October for Tonni Micklautz.
