Effingham Public Library's plan to modify its non-resident fee is starting to bear fruit.

Library Director Amanda McKay said they just a couple of weeks into the switch, but said they are seeing a lot of new cards going out. The plan involves out of district residents taking their property tax bill into the library and utilizing a formula that is resulting in a reduction in what they would have paid for their library card.

The Board decided to utilize SC3F to invest funds received from the estate of the late Dr. Herbert Austin. Action on the item is expected at the Board's June meeting.

Also starting back up is work on the library's strategic plan. McKay said community conversations focus groups will be scheduled in June, along with open sessions as the library explores expanding their service area beyond the city limits.

The library board also had an opportunity to meet two new staff members. Alvin Ealy is the new Assistant Director, succeeding Johnna Schultz. Ealy, an Effingham native, will begin his duties on July 1. Sara Rauch was introduced as the library's new outreach coordinator.
