Rural Med Ambulance

It's only been a little more than a week, but so far, so good on emergency ambulance coverage in Effingham County.

The Effingham County Board's Ambulance Oversight Committee heard Tuesday that new emergency ambulance provider Rural Med has had no problems, with one exception. The exception was a call to Funkhouser, where the residence is covered in brush and crews didn't realize that's where the residence is located.

Rural Med had 65 emergency calls since taking over 911 service on May 1, with nine refusals. Lakeside EMS provided mutual aid on one call

Rural Med owner Ethan Bouser said they have responded from locations in Dieterich, Effingham and St. Elmo. Committee member Deb Murbarger of HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital asked for data as to where crews were dispatched from to make sure times are the best they can be.

Generally, there were no complaints as to service since the changeover after five years from Abbott EMS to Rural Med.
