Operations at Village Square Mall in Effingham are back to normal after electrical service was restored.

A cutoff this morning of electric service by AmerenCIPS led Effingham Fire Chief Joe Holomy to direct the mall be closed.  Payment of the electric bill was made early this afternoon and service has been restored.

J.C. Penney was open for business throughout the day today as the store has separate entrances and pays its own utility bills.  Some of the stores within the mall also pay their own power bills and have electric service within their businesses, but had to remain closed because of darkened hallways leading to the stores.  Again, all service has been restored and the Mall is open and operating as usual.

The Mall was shut down several days earlier by the City until a delinquent water bill was paid.
