Altamont city council members acted on two infrastructure projects at this week's meeting.

The Council awarded a sewer south force main improvement to R&H Plumbing of Altamont for $264,532, although the award will need to be finalized at the Council's next meeting.

Also approved was authorization of Milano and Grunloh of Effingham to do engineering work on South Point Subdivision, the city's new residential development, for $42,969.

The Council acted on several issues related to Whistlestop Saloon. The Council denied a billboard placed on the south side of the building, and denied signage on the west and south sides of the building as too large. The Council did allow an increase in the maximum sign footage on the north side of the hoop building at the saloon, but also voted that the business has to put up fencing already required or else to stop using the hoop building. There is a requirement that fencing at least six feet tall needs put in place if patrons are going to sit outside the establishment and to prevent patrons from gaining access to the business through the hoop building.

Altamont council members approved the demolition of a city-owned home and garage at 207 N. 7th Street, and voted to increase the wage for part-time city police officers by $2.00/hour, to $18.00/hour.
