The man who allegedly led Greenup police on a chase to Effingham Tuesday morning has been charged in Cumberland County Circuit Court.

The suspect, 31-year-old Arial Childress of Terre Haute, told authorities he had stolen a vehicle in Terre Haute and drove to Greenup where he abandoned that vehicle and took the pickup truck involved in the pursuit from in front of the bank in Greenup. Childress reportedly headed west on US Route 40 with a Greenup police officer in pursuit through Jewett, Montrose and Teutopolis to Effingham. Childress then reportedly continued west on Fayette Avenue over the interstate and out past La Pasada Estates to where the road takes a jog to the north. Childress missed the jog and ran off the roadway, ending the episode.

No one was injured in the incident.

In Cumberland County Circuit Court in Toledo Wednesday morning, Childress was charged with felony counts of aggravated fleeing or eluding a police officer as well as possession of a stolen vehicle. Bond for Childress was set at $30,000.

Childress is next due in court on January 24.
