Toby Lane of Westfield was sentenced Monday to a total of 30 years in prison.

The 45-year-old Lane pleaded guilty in Cumberland County Circuit Court to second degree murder and aggravated battery in the July 2020 death of Bridget Duncan. Lane pleaded guilty to inflicting blows to Duncan's head and administering a controlled substance to her.

Lane pleaded guilty to the lesser charges in December after initially being charged with first degree murder as well as aggravated domestic battery.

Judge Jonathan Braden sentenced Lane to 20 years in prison on the second degree murder count and 10 years in prison on the aggravated battery count. The sentencing will run consecutively, not together.

Lane will also serve two years mandatory supervised release on each charge once out of prison.
