County Jobless Rate Below 3% in October

Effingham County's unemployment rate for October slipped below 3%.

The jobless of 2.9% is down from 4.1% in October 2020. The Illinois Department of Employment Security reports total non-farm employment in October increased by 725 from one year earlier.

Employment gains were posted in Educational and Health Services, Government, Construction, Leisure and Hospitality, Manufacturing, Information, Other Services, Natural Resources and Mining, and Financial Activities.

No employment changes were reported in Trade, Transportation and Utilties.

Area counties and their jobless rates:

Coles--3.9%, down from 5.6% one year earlier

Cumberland--3.0%, down from 3.8%

Shelby--3.1%, down from 4.2%

Clay--4.2%, down from 5.0%

Fayette--3.7%, down from 4.9%

Jasper--3.2%, down from 3.7%

The state jobless rate in October was 5.0%, down from 7.5%.
