Two Effingham County residents were injured when a truck hauling a trailer went out of control on a Wayne County highway and the trailer jackknifed. Illinois State Police report the trailer then separated from the truck, which came to rest on its roof.

The truck was driven by 46-year-old Gregory Bergfeld of Teutopolis. Bergfeld and a passenger, 23-year-old Zachary Lindsey of Effingham, were both airlifted to a regional hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The crash occured at 1:30pm Friday.
