Edgewood Area Man Found Dead in His Home; Home Invasion Involved and Safe and Firearms Taken from Home

Authorities are investigating a death and suspected home invasion near Edgewood.

The Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 8 was requested by the Clay County Sheriff's Office to assist with the incident. 

80-year-old Roger Courson was found dead in his home by a family member at approximately 11:00 Sunday morning.

Authorities determined that a safe, multiple firearms and a television were taken from the Courson residence. The investigation is being led by the Illinois State Police DCI Zone 8 and is still open and ongoing. 

The cause and manner of death are pending.
