Effingham city officials continue their search for a new fire chief.

The city has been without a chief since Bob Tutko retired as of July 2.

Effingham City Administrator Steve Miller said the City has collected resumes, and several candidates have been interviewed.

Miller said they were "very close on a few of those candidates, but we were unable to close the deal for various reasons". He said they are looking at an outside resource to help with he termed a "deeper search".

Tutko had served as fire chief since 2018, when he succeeded Joe Holomy.
