Quiet Zone 2021 1

The railroad "quiet zone" in Effingham went into operation earlier this week, but some technical issues have resulted in some trains still sounding their horns in the area.

Effingham City Director of Public Works Jeremy Heuerman said he talked with CN Railroad officials Thursday night. He said the officials indicated they are having technical issues reprogramming their automated system that sounds the horn and overrides the train engineer.

Heuerman said the railroad officials hope to have the problem corrected by Monday.

The quiet zone is along the CN tracks from Evergreen Avenue on the north to Jefferson Avenue on the south.
