Mary Miller 2020

Local Congresswoman Mary Miller was among those who spoke Wednesday on the fight against chemical abortions on college campuses, the science against these procedures, and personal experiences with them.

The focus is legislation that would not permit federal funding for such procedures.

Representatives from a number of pro-life organizations, including Students for Life, spoke at the event. Other pro-life legislators also participated.

The legislation would prohibit federal funds from going to any institution of higher learning that hosts or is affiliated with a student-based service site that provides abortion drugs or abortion to students or the institution or to employees of the institution or site.

Congresswoman Miller said the legislation is in direct response to California's chemical abortion pill mandate on college campuses. Starting in 2023, California will require their 34 public universities to provide chemical abortion pills to their students without exception.

The measure supported by Congresswoman Miller would require, that to remain eligible for federal funding, institutions of higher learning are required to submit an annual report to the Secretary of Education and the Secretary of Health and Human Services certifying that no site provides abortion drugs or abortions to students of the institution.
