Altamont school board members this week accepted the resignation of former board president Shelly Kuhns.

Kuhns had resigned as board president earlier this year, saying an increased workload necessitated stepping away from the president's duties. The Board will work to fill the vacancy within the next month.

The Altamont board approved hiring three summer maintenance workers, and approved Borries Painting to paint the Altamont Grade School gym at a total cost of $9,600. The Board also approved Summer School for Altamont Grade School; accepted a five-year copy machine bid; approved a pickup truck bid through the State purchasing program; and approved the Altamont Sports Boosters utilizing a Queen of Hearts fundraiser to finance construction of a concession stand and restroom at the soccer and track field at the grade school.

Altamont board members hired Jordan Leihser as a teacher at the grade school; approved the resignation of grade school teacher Laura Smith; approved membership in the IHSA and IESA for the coming school year; and heard from Maintenance Director Alan Whitt on maintenance work in district facilities.
