Effingham Noon Rotary Club members were briefed on the Affordable Care Act at their meeting April 3.

Ron Upshaw, Senior Marketing Consultant for BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois, spoke to Rotarians about the implementation of what is also known as Obamacare.  Upshaw spoke about an expected increase in rates to some as well as coverage for those previously uninsured, and discussed whether those who make group coverage available will continue to do so.

Scott Mosher served as Rotary Weekly Program Chairman.

Mosher also participated in an induction ceremony during which Amanda Pitcher was named a member of Rotary Noon Club.  Mosher served as Pitcher's sponsor.

The meeting was also the scene of the presentation of a Prudential Spirit of Community Award to Altamont's Paige Logan.  Rich Hartke of Prudential, also a Noon Rotarian, presented the award to Logan, who is one of two students in Illinois to receive the award this year.  She will next compete in a national event in Washington, DC in May.  Logan received the award for her work to combat bullying and also for working as a 4-H Youth Ambassador to implement the county's P2D2 Program, that makes sites available for dropoff of unused medications.  Some 1,500 pounds of medications have been received.
