Effingham Unit 40 school board members Thursday approved renovation work at East Side School.

The proposal from CTS came to $507,560. The work will include replacement of the HVAC system including ionization units at the building, as well as new windows. The contractor agreed to do the window replacement work when not active on the HVAC work. Assistant Superintendent Jason Fox said CTS agreeing to do the work will save the District about $12,000.

Unit 40 is going to be utilizing East Side for pre-school classes after leasing the building to others the past few years.

The Board Thursday also approved a five-year lease-to-own school bus purchase from Midwest Bus Sales for $495,711. Seven new buses will be acquired each year of the agreement. The buses will be equipped with air-conditioning as well as stop arm cameras. Fox said motorists passing stopped school buses rang up 12 violations in just the past week.

Board members also voted to purchase two compressors for rooftop air conditioning units at Central Grade School for $12,200.
