Some area communities will receive grant funds for infrastructure work.

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity announced that a total of $18 million will be awarded to 34 communities across the state for water and sewer improvement projects.

Altamont will receive $550,000, as will St. Elmo. Altamont will be using the funds for sewer main replacement and relining work in the northwest part of the city. St. Elmo will be replacing water lines north from Route 40 along Main Street to across the CSX railroad tracks.

The 2021 program makes another $18 million available for public infrastructure projects. The deadline for communities to apply is August 3. Find out more on DCEO's website.
