Altamont City Council members Monday approved a lighting project at Gilbert Park.

The work will replace the ball diamond lighting at Diamond A, the field that faces Altamont Grade School.

The project will cost $25,052.72, but a grant from the Illinois Municipal Electric Association will pay for $18,556 of the cost, leaving the City a balance to cover of $6,496. Also, the LED lighting to be installed is expected to reduce the cost of lighting the diamond.

The work is to be done in time for the coming season.

The Altamont Council also approved a contract with Wendling Landscape for landscape border installation on the south side of the Municipal Building. The City had some drainage work done on the south side of the building so the existing landscaping had to be removed. The work will cost $2,645.90.

Council members decided to table an agreement with Travis Voelker for timber harvesting at the city's water reservoir until Voelker can attend a meeting to answer questions about the project.
