Unit 40 School Board Sets End-of-Year Dates

Effingham Unit 40 school board members set end-of-year dates Monday night.

May 21 will be the final day for students, a half-day session. 

Effingham High School graduation is set for 2pm on Sunday, May 23.

Remote Learning Planning Days are scheduled for May 24-26.

A Teacher Institute will close the school year on May 27.

The Board took action on several personnel matters. Rebecca Eskew was transferred to a counselor's position at Effingham High School. Ashley Garrison's resignation as a nurse paraprofessional was accepted.

Leaves were approved for Morgan Lidy, Cathy Hayes, Heather Batson, Rhonda Wines,, Katherine Wetherell, Megan Faber and Amanda Lister. Catherine Bierman was named junior high girls track coach.

Board members also approved a Summer Bridge Program for Unit 40 students in Grades K-5 in Reading and Math to be ready for the new school year. Also approved was a conversion from manual to automatic cranks on the side baskets at Central School, and elimination of leaks by Woods Basement Systems in the basement area of the Board office building on South Banker Street.

The Board approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Regional Office of Education for alternative education work, and an agreement was approved with Glass and Shuffett to perform the audit of the past fiscal year.
