Louisville area farmer Darren Bailey made it official Monday evening; he is a candidate for the Republican nomination for Governor of Illinois.

Bailey, who just began his first term as 55th District State Senator, said he and wife Cindy talked with the others who were potential candidates for the nomination, which would allow him to stay in the Senate. He said, though, that they just didn't get the answers they were hoping for from the others, leading them to the conviction that Bailey had to enter the race. He is the third Republican to date to announce his candidacy.

After his announcement before several hundred people Monday night at Thelma Keller Convention Center in Effingham, Bailey will travel to Highland, Marion, and Bloomington on Tuesday, then to Utica, Loves Park, and Shorewood on Wednesday.

Bailey talked in an interview with our Greg Sapp Monday before the formal announcement that much prayer has gone on by him and his wife and many churches in Illinois about his candidacy. He said the same methods and ways of operating that have gone on for years will never lead to change, and that's why he says it's time to try a new approach.
