One Death, Four New Positive COVID Cases in County Friday and Saturday

Effingham County Health Department announced the COVID-related death of a man in his 80s over the weekend.

That brings the number of COVID-related deaths in the county to 80, made up of 69 confirmed deaths and 11 COVID-probable deaths. 10 of those deaths were under the age of 70 with a further 13 deaths in the 70 to 75 age group.

The Department also reported four new positive COVID cases Friday and Saturday.

The Friday case was a male in his 30s. The Saturday cases were a female in her 50s, a male in his 60s, and a male in his 70s.

The Health Department reported that the week's weather impacted COVID vaccine clinics, but the Department still managed to distribute 330 second doses.

Illinois Region 6 rolling test positivity was 3.2% through February 17, while Effingham County was 2.6% for the same period.

On Monday, the Illinois Department of Public Health reported 1,246 new confirmed and probable cases of Coronavirus Disease in the state, including 34 additional deaths.

As of Sunday night, 1,504 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 377 patients were in the ICU and 169 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
