Illinois Sued For Not Allowing Gay Marriage

(Chicago, IL) --  The state of Illinois has been sued for not allowing gay marriage. John Knight with the ACLU of Illinois says the 25 couples want the full benefits of marriage and believe state-backed civil unions aren't enough. Illinois approved civil unions last year. Under state law, marriage is defined as only between a man and a woman. The state legislature has considered gay marriage bills since 2007 but all have died in committee. Gay marriage has the support of Governor Pat Quinn and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
