Both drivers were injured when a car and truck collided Tuesday morning in Summit Township.

Effingham County sheriff's deputies report the crash occurred at 6:10am on Illinois Route 33, about a half-mile west of the junction with Illinois Route 32. Deputies report the vehicles, driven by 49-year-old Brian Stirrett of Shelbyville and by 32-year-old Marlene Perkins of Herrick, were traveling eastbound. Stirrett passed the Perkins vehicle and tried to re-enter the driving lane too soon. Stirrett's vehicle struck the Perkins vehicle, causing both vehicles to leave the highway to the right. Both units struck a large ditch and culvert and traveled across an access road.

Stirrett's vehicle came to rest upright in the south ditch, while Perkins' vehicle went back across the highway and left the road to the north, coming to rest upright in a field.

Both Stirrett and Perkins were taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment.

No citations were issued.
