Teutopolis school board members Monday voted to let district residents decide how members are elected.

The Board voted to place a policy question on the April 2021 election ballot as to whether board members should be elected on an at-large basis. The change would end the current setup of no more than three board members from a district.

If the proposal is approved, at-large election of Board members would begin with the April 2023 balloting, not this year.

Teutopolis Superintendent Matt Sturgeon reported that the proposal can be approved in two ways; a simple majority approval in each district, or by a two-thirds vote or larger district-wide.

The Teutopolis board also accepted a bid from Midwest Transit to purchase a 29-passenger preschool bus. The bid was $87,808, and includes a seat belt option.

Sturgeon also reported that the district curriculum committee would be resurrected, and that quarterly reports will begin from transportation, maintenance and other directors.
