9,277 New Confirmed and Probable Cases of COVID Reported Friday in Illinois

The Illinois Department of Public Health Friday reported 9,277 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease in Illinois. That number includes 126 COVID-related deaths.

Illinois has now reported more than one million cases since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

There were COVID-related deaths reported in the area Friday, including a male in his 80s in Effingham County, a female in her 80s in Fayette County, and a female in her 70s and a male in his 80s in Marion County.

As of Thursday night, 3,777 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 780 patients were in the ICU and 422 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

In addition to the COVID-related death in Effingham County, 27 new positive test results were reported in the county Friday.

Here's the breakdown:

MALES: one less than 10 years old, one teen, one in his 20s, one in his 30s, three in their 40s, one in his 50s, three in their 60s, two in their 70s, and one in his 80s

FEMALES: one less than 10 years old, one in her 20s, one in her 30s, one in her 40s, three in their 50s, four in their 60s, one in her 70s, and one in her 80s.

Illinois Region 6 test positivity seven-day rolling average was 9.5% through January 5, and Effingham County came in at 15.8% for the same period.

The Health Department asks you to stay home if you are sick or waiting on test results. You're asked to do your part in reducing the spread of COVID by masking up properly, washing your hands regularly, maintaining six-foot social distancing, and avoiding large groups.
