Cody Cordes 2020

A Mattoon man is facing charges of Solicitation to Commit Murder and Conspiracy to Commit Murder.

Mattoon Police report that Cody D. Cordes, 28, of Mattoon, was arrested on Wednesday, November 25th in the 3800 block of Marshall Avenue in Mattoon.

The charges allege that Cordes solicited another person to engage in the robbery and murder of at least two individuals at a residence in Champaign, where heroin was reportedly being sold.

Police say Cordes planned the robbery and murder of a heroin dealer in Champaign with the intent to gain drugs, cash, and more firearms. Cordes conspired with another person to engage in the crimes, then furthered his plan on the evening of November 25th when he obtained a shotgun to use in the killings. Police arrested Cordes at that time.

Cordes was taken to the Coles County Jail. Champaign authorities were notified of the location of the drug house as well as the identity of one of the intended victims.
