Lake Land College trustees Monday approved a Resource Allocation Management Plan for the institution.

The RAMP outlines what improvement projects will be undertaken in the future. On the horizon is rehabilitation of the Kluthe Center for Higher Education in Effingham, along with remodeling of the Northwest and Northeast classroom buildings on the campus in Mattoon.

The Board approved the appointment of Valerie Lynch of Pana as Interim Vice President of Student Services for a one-year term. Lynch, who has been serving as Student Life Director, is to be mentored by retiring Vice President of Student Services Tina Stovall during the one-year term. If things go well, Lynch is expected to become the Vice President of Student Services after the one-year interim period.

Lake Land trustees reviewed a proposed property tax abatement for the Altamont/Effingham County Enterprise Zone. The Zone was approved by the State, but affected taxing bodies have to sign off on the abatement. This was the first look at the proposal for the trustees, with a vote on the abatement expected at the Board's November meeting. An Enterprise Zone offers different perqs to businesses expanding or locating in a zone. This zone also includes the village of Beecher City.

The Board decided to continue the Lake Land College Foundation tax levy; and agreed to continue a memorandum of understanding regarding handling education during the pandemic with the Lake Land College Faculty Association through the Spring 2021 term.
