Effingham city police are investigating three reports of potential scams between 10am Tuesday and 3pm Wednesday.

Police say the suspect phoned local residents and requested money be immediately wired to them in order to bail a grandchild out of jail.

None of the potential victims gave out any information or sent any money and, after ending the phone calls, all three confirmed that their grandchildren had not been incarcerated.

Police say scams similar to these are going on within the community and are asking residents to verify any unusual contact requesting transfer of funds.  The investigation is continuing.

Citizens are reminded to never give out personal information such as bank account or credit card numbers to anyone they do not know, and to thoroughly verify information by contacting the appropriate law enforcement agency in the event of suspicious activity.
