Six people were injured in a crash on Effingham's south end Thursday night.

The crash occurred at 8:12pm at the intersection of Banker and Jaycee.  City police say a vehicle driven by 52-year-old William Macklin of Effingham turned into the path of a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Nicholas Vasquez of Flora and the Vasquez vehicle collided with the Macklin unit.

Both drivers were injured, as were four passengers in the Vasquez unit...three-year-old Michael Vasquez, 28-year-old Maria Gabriel, 49-year-old Patricia Sanchez and 38-year-old Mario Olmedo, all of Flora.  All five people in the Vasquez vehicle were taken to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment.  Macklin refused treatment.

City police cited Macklin for failure to yield, and cited Nicholas Vasquez for no valid driver's license and for failure to secure a child under age eight in a child restraint.
