US Department of Agriculture State Director Doug Wilson announced USDA and the Trump Administration are making almost $21 million available to modernize rural drinking water infrastructure in the state.

EJ Water Cooperative, based in Dieterich, will use a $180,000 loan to provide additional funding to cover construction costs. The project allows EJ to complete close to 50 miles of four-inch, six-inch and eight-inch water main to serve an additional user.

The project will alleviate a documented health and sanitary hazard that exists due to private contaminated wells. The work will serve portions of Sigel, Cumberland and Claremont townships.

In Coles County, the Village of Ashmore will use a $320,000 loan to replace more than 10,000 feet of water main, along with service meters and fire hydrants. The project will provide safe potable water to the 785 residents of Ashmore.
