A SUV ran into an Illinois State Police squad car in Richland County Tuesday morning.

Just after 8:30am, a trooper made a traffic stop of a semi on Illinois Route 130 in Parkersburg. The semi was stopped along the roadway during the traffic stop.

The trooper pulled into an empty private lot, with emergency lights activated, to complete the enforcement.

At about 9:45am, the owner of the private lot drove his SUV into the front of the trooper's squad car, with the trooper seated inside the squad car.

Neither the trooper, nor the driver of the SUV, 76-year-old Verlin Cokley of Parkersburg, was injured.

Following an investigation, Cokley was arrested on counts of aggravated assault, reckless driving and criminal damage to state-supported property. Cokley was taken to Richland County Jail in Olney.
