Dieterich village board members Monday agreed to get prices on a dry hydrant that would be installed in the village pond.

The pond is nearly empty so work on the banks can take place and so silt can be removed. While the pond is empty, Ken Campton of the Dieterich Fire Protection District suggested to board members that a dry hydrant could be put in place. A "dry hydrant" wouldn't be connected to the village water system. Instead, in case of major fires that would take a toll on the village water supply, the dry hydrant could be used to pump water out of the pond.

Emptying out the pond will also allow work to be completed on a new fishing pier this fall.

Also Monday, the Dieterich board agreed to establish a $20 annual fee for a permit for mobile food service establishments. The board also approved an annual $200 business sponsorship for Dieterich Sportsbackers, and approved the sale of a lot at 204 W. Center Street for $10,000. The lot is zoned commercial, and a project is to be completed on the site within two years.

Dieterich Mayor Brad Hardiek reminded that the village caucus will be held on December 7. It appears at least one current trustee might not be seeking election, so anyone interested in running is encouraged to do so.
